Memory Care

Memory Care & Senior Living

Our memory care community is rooted in empathy and compassion. Those suffering from Alzheimer’s, dementia, and other cognitive challenges are family to us. We extend the same gentle care as we would our own close relatives.

Memory care is an important aspect of long-term care. It was designed to address the unique needs of individuals experiencing memory loss. Our memory care team of experts is highly trained to assist individuals at every stage of memory decline. Residents with memory impairment are placed in an environment specifically arranged for easy navigation. We’ve designed safe indoor and outdoor areas to serve our memory care and senior living residents.

At Walker Methodist, we staff each community with the best and brightest individuals who are truly passionate about caring for older adults. Not only is the experience and commitment of our team unmatched, but our expansive list of senior care options is ever-evolving.

Kaleidoscope Memory Care

A group of butterflies is called a kaleidoscope—a perfect description of the ever-changing swirl of color and patterns they create together in flight. Butterflies symbolize powerful transformation, and they are a fitting illustration of the journey of memory loss.

We named our memory care program Kaleidoscope, a representation of the journey through change. And at Walker Methodist no one makes this journey alone—they are part of a Kaleidoscope—a supportive and caring community that, together, creates a beautiful picture.

Music & Memory®

One Song, A Million Memories

Music has been shown to directly improve the lives, minds, ad health of those suffering from Alzheimer’s and dementia. By implementing music therapy, we’ve seen residents come alive in expression and recollection of their past. It’s become a healthy way to exercise the mind and strengthen the memory of an individual listening to music derived from their past. Since music has a profound connection with memory, it is used in our memory care program to slow memory loss, increase recognition, recollection, and improve mood and lifestyle of residents.

Other Things That Impact Memory Care

Culinary

Certain foods have been shown to slow cognitive decline by increasing blood flow to the brain and expanding memory and attention. Implementing anti-inflammatory foods helps repair damaged cell tissues or strengthens existing muscle tissue.

Fitness

Good physical fitness in social settings benefit older adults struggling with memory loss. The body is built to move at every stage of life and it works synergistically with the brain to improve overall health. It also helps fight off depression, anxiety, and negative thought cycles.

Social/Intellectual

Social environments help stimulate cognitive function along with including mental exercises. Memory games are important at any age, but especially as we age. Learning new things and engaging in cognitive activities helps keep the brain active by building new pathways and strengthening existing ones.
